Gun Violence
Gun Violence-
The violent use of firearms has been present in the United States since it's existence. The United States won it's independence in 1776 with the help of firearms and proceeded to make it a right to own a firearm soon after with the enactment of the Second Amendment. However, in the early 1900's people primarily owned firearms for self-protection. There was little gun violence by comparison to what the United States has experienced in the last ten years. There were certainly school shootings and homicides being committed with firearms, but they were more seldom and involved fewer deaths and injuries. During the 1890's there were only ten confirmed school shootings resulting in fewer than 15 total deaths throughout the decade as a direct result of school shootings. One hundred years later 62 people were killed collectively as a direct result of 26 school shootings throughout the 1990's.
