Gun Control

Gun control-
America had very little in the way of gun control in the early 1900's. In fact, America didn't have a single law around firearms at the beginning of the 1900's. One of the first gun control laws went into effect in 1911 when New York passed the Sullivan Act. This act required all citizens living in New York to register any weapon small enough to conceal with the state. This was a testing of the waters for gun control as many other states began passing laws after this. It wasn't until the 1930's that federal laws started getting passed though, and this was quickly silenced with the start of World War II.
"The challenge with gun laws is that by definition criminals do not follow the law," -Alex Conant
Gun control is very different now. In the 1960's a major push for gun control was made and this support has continued right up to the present despite the fact that the overall public has declined in it's support of gun control. In the early 2000's, President Bush made his position on gun control known and pushed for trigger locks across the country as well as saying he agreed with the assault weapon ban. Furthermore, President Obama proposed a complete reform for gun control in 2013 affecting every aspect of gun control. Some of the proposed subjects are requiring background checks for all gun sales, restoring a ten round limit on ammunition, and eliminating armor piercing bullets among other restrictions.
